
Le Citta del Vino
Born in 1987, the Cities of Wine represent a net of more than 569 local bodies. An ideal route through historical Italian villages, cities of art, on the seaside or mountain. In general every single city with an enogastronomical history to tell.
A web of Municipalities, Provinces, Parks and Mountain Communities with a strong vocation for wine, able to put at stake more than 4.000 hotels (about 142.000 accomodations), 1.500 Farm Houses (18.000 accomodations), 189 camping grounds, hundreds of quality restaurants, wine bars and wine cellars. As a whole, more than 200.000 hectares of vine yards, all registered to the Doc (Controlled Denomination of Origin) and Docg (Guaranteed and Controlled Denomination of Origin), equal to 4 out 5 of the Italian vineyards under a Denomination of Origin.
An educative route for a good governance of the territories; after the Anci (Association of the Italian Municipalities), this is the first Association of local bodies.
It was established in 1987 from the attention and care of a group of 36 Mayors, who strongly believed in the strategic importance of this struggle in favor of quality. For a global quality, not only the one connected to the wine. The one, which is recognized by everybody as the biggest richness of our country.
During the years several Municipalities, villages and cities became Members of the Association: above all the littlest, those which give a name to a wine, which produce wines under Controlled Denomination of Origin and which are linked to wine for traditions, history and culture. Those cities to which the rurality and the enogastronomy together represent more and more a real occasion to a new sustainability of the territories.
Among those cities it is possible to find Rome, Florence, Trapani, showing the intention of CittĂ del Vino to become a net, a web able to connect the local Administrations, producers, tourist incoming and territorial sustainability.
An association of public and private subjects determined in creating revenue in those disadvantaged areas.
An aggregation of local bodies, which understood that the land can represent an important potential to develop, for themselves and for the achievement of a better community, for the tourists and inhabitants’ sake.
